Jade Box

Don't throw out those cell phone boxes! I recycled this one to hold some of my swatches, inspired by the jade stone.

It started with a coat of black gesso, followed by Emerald Creek Boho Blends (Turkish Bronze) Embossing Powder, as you can see on the sides.

White gesso was then added to the Prima Donna Downey Poppies and Peonies Collection Stencil along the front, top and back. Once dry, I reapplied the stencil, and heat embossed several layers of Emerald Creek Baked Velvet Embossing Powders (Lime and Dusk) along with Boho Blends (Burmese Jade). Then I painted around the design with Art Alchemy Opal Magic (Green-Gold), and added touches of white gesso and EC Rock Candy (Spearmint) Embossing Powder.

The metal embellishments were covered with black gesso, and left to dry before embossing with EC (Charred Gold) and touches of Baked Texture (Patina Oxide) Embossing Powders. Then I added some small light green rhinestones and the beautiful jade bead that I inherited from my husband's grandmother, who frequently traveled to Asia.

Before I even started the tab didn't fit right, so the lid wouldn't close all the way. I almost cut it off, but am so glad I didn't, because all of the layers of gesso and embossing powders was all it needed to get the perfect fit.

     Here's a peek inside!

I love my 2" swatches, and can easily see what paints or embossing powders I have, and how they'll look together without having to take them off of a ring! On the right side I used black cardstock, which can make a huge difference in the color. Here's a look at all of the Emerald Creek Embossing Powders used on this project.

Thanks for looking, and check back soon for another cell phone box transformation to hold the rest of my swatches!

Challenges Entered:

The Funky Junkie Boutique Blog ~ Leap Into the Odd (Recycled cell phone box and did stencil work on 3 sides, added 3 small circle embellies, and 3 large ones. It also might be a little odd or dumb to add real jade onto a box of faux jade. Lol! )
