Steampunk Mixed Media Canvas

Hi everyone! I never really thought that my dad looked like his dad, until I saw this photo of my late grandpa. But it could also be the mischievous look he has. Lol!

I started this canvas for my Dad's 70th Birthday, by collaging some torn papers, and playing cards with Prima Soft Matte Gel. Then I added white gesso, and Tim Holtz Distress (Crackle) Texture Paste. Once it dried, I applied black gesso to the Stamperia (Clock & Mechanisms) Stencil. Since my grandpa was always so playful and funny, I had to include the Joker, which you can see peeking through the gesso in the photo below, above the two of clubs card.

My Dad's love of poker, definitely came from my grandpa, and has always been a favorite family activity. Besides the real playing cards collaged onto the canvas, I also included the cards from Mintay Papers using the Old Manor Collection, aged with Lindy's Gang (Beaver Tail Brown) Squirt and (Landlubber Green Vintage) Spray. Then I recycled some fruit netting, and anchored it and the photo with the Steampunk Pipe Corner from Creative Embellishments.

I was so happy to see the rocking horse, also from the Old Manor Collection from Mintay Papers, and have fond memories of riding one just like it on visits to my grandparents house as a child! The other fussy cut embellishments are all part of this fabulous vintage line, including the trunk, books, and paper screws, along with the paper that also got collaged onto the canvas, before coloring with Lindy's Gang (Beaver Tail Brown) Squirt and Sprays (Landlubber Green Vintage, Marigold Yellow Orange, Steampunk Sepia, and Ponderosa Pines Olive).

Some of the cogs and gears were made from paper clay using the Finnabair (Mechanica) Mould, and were all finished with Lindy's Gang Sprays, and embossing powders (Cleopatra Copper and Reindeer Moss Green). Then I added even more texture with Finnabair Rust Effect Paste (Brown and Dark Olive). I also rubbed some Finnabair (Rich Copper) Wax onto the black stenciling.

Thanks so much for looking, and take care!

Spring ATC's

Hi everyone! Gloomy days call for happy, bright colors, as shown on my latest set of Artist Trading Cards.

My inspiration and colors came from the February Color Challenge at Lindy's Gang.

I started by painting a strip of heavy watercolor paper with Lindy's Gang Magicals (Hi Maintenance Magenta, Yodeling Yellow, Lederhosen Laurel, and Guten Tag Teal) and Sprays (Urban Amethyst and Freaky Frankenlime). The green is a mix of Freaky Frankenlime Spray with Magical Shakers (Lederhosen Laurel and Yodeling Yellow). Then I cut four to measure 2 1/2" X 3 1/2".

All of the stenciling was done with Ranger Archival Ink (Jet Black) applied to three different stencils.

The white flowers were stamped and embossed with Lindy's Gang (Purely White) Embossing Powder. Then I embossed the black ones onto white cardstock with LG (Midnight Pewter) Embossing Powder, painted them with the same colors in the background, curled up the petals, and added white puffy paint to the centers.

The clips were originally black, and got transformed with LG (Purely White) Embossing Powder, also used for the Spring words that were embossed onto strips of black cardstock. This one is my favorite!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and take care!

Lindy's Gang January Color Challenge Card

With the new year, comes new resolutions, and one of mine last year was to enter all of Lindy's Gang Color Challenges. I came close, but missed last November and December, so thought I'd start again with this card for January, and my first post for 2021.

The snowflakes were stamped with the Bo Bunny Snowflakes Stamp, and embossed with Lindy's Gang (Silver Moon Turquoise) Embossing Powder. Then I applied Finnabair (Platinum Crackle) Texture Paste to the edges, and let it air dry, before spritzing with Lindy's Gang Sprays (Pop Rock Purple and Afternoon Delight Denim), and adding snow splatters with (Sidewalk Chalk).

The chipboard Snowflakes from Creative Embellishments are new, and were covered with Prima Heavy White Gesso. Then they got embossed with LG (Silver Moon Turquoise and Hollyhock Scarlet Plum) Embossing Powders. For some extra sparkle and texture, I applied Finnabair (Crushed Ice) Effect Paste (also new) to the snowflakes and card edges.

Finally, the sentiment was embossed with LG (Hollyhock Scarlet Plum) Embossing Powder.

Thanks for looking, and hope your year has gotten off to a great start!

Lindy's Gang October Color Birthday Card

Hi everybody! I hope you're staying safe and healthy! I'm here to share a mixed media card made for a Winter Birthday.

The colors are inspired by the October Color Challenge at Lindy's Gang.

The design is based on Sketch #247 at Feeling Sketchy.

I started with white gesso applied to one of the Tim Holtz Mini Layered Stencil's from Set #47. Then I applied the gesso to a diecut flourish directly onto the background, and set it aside to dry. The next step was coloring the flourish with Lindy's Gang (Stormy Silver) Magical Shaker, and embossing it with LG (Queen Sheba's Silver) Embossing Powder, also used on the edges.

The background colors started with LG Sprays (Ocean Breeze Blue and Bougainvillea Fuchsia). Once dry, I added the next layer using LG Magicals (Hi Maintenance Magenta and Guten Tag Teal) mixed with water. Snow was splattered with LG (Sidewalk Chalk) Spray, and the details of the stencil work picked up with Finnabair Metallique Wax (Brushed Iron).

To create snow on the flowers, I added touches of white gesso, embossed with LG (Purely White) Embossing Powder, also done around the sentiment.

Thanks for looking, and take care!

With Sympathy Card

Hello again! It's never easy making a sympathy card, but this one came together pretty quickly!

I used colors from the September Color Challenge at Lindy's Gang, and finished just in the nick of time.

The background was done with Lindy's (Polka Purple) Magical Shaker and (Banff Blue) Squirt onto a piece of white cardstock. Then I splattered (Glittering Gold) Magical Shaker over it, but it's very subtle.

The sentiment, card base, and blue cardstock edges were embossed with LG (King Midas Gold) Embossing Powder, and the center edges done with LG (Midnight Violet) EP

To bring out the sentiment, I painted a cloud using Lindy's (Sidewalk Chalk) Spray

     Thanks for dropping by!

Sun, Sand, Sea Tag

Hey everyone! Today I'm sharing a fun, mixed media tag made with real shells and sand.

The colors were inspired by the August Color Challenge at Lindy's Gang

The first step was adhering torn strips from an old dictionary onto my tag. Then I applied white gesso through some zigzag stencils, and used a palette knife to create the sea. The larger zigzags, done with the Tim Holtz (Zigzag) Stencil, were embossed with Lindy's Gang (Purely White) Embossing Powder, and the smaller ones, done with the Distressed Patterns Stencil from Creative Embellishments, were embossed with Lindy's (Silver Moon Turquoise) EP.

After applying a torn piece of textured paper onto the bottom for the sand, I colored the whole background, with Lindy's Gang Sprays (Ocean Breeze Blue and Treasure Island Aqua) and Magicals (Bling-y Blonde and Guten Tag Teal). The rope was adhered with Prima 3D Matte Gel, and sprinkled with sand. Perfect spot for the cheesecloth, shells, and stars! The chipboard "S" was colored with Lindy's Magicals (Bling-y Blonde and Guten Tag Teal), and embossed with (Starbright Gold Green and Sassy Sapphire) Embossing Powders.

All of the stars were made from paper clay using the Finnabair (Star and Moons) Mould. Then I painted them directly, without any primer or gesso, with Lindy's (Bling-y Blonde) Magical mixed with water, and (Treasure Island Aqua) Spray. After drying, I did it again with another coat. Lindy's Gang (Sassy Sapphire) Embossing Powder was added along the raised areas of the stars, and the rest were embossed with LG (Starbright Gold Green) EP. All of the texture I created with the white gesso was embossed with LG (Purely White) EP, using a clear Versamark Embossing Pen. As you can see, I also added sand over the textured paper, and around the stars and shells with Prima 3D Matte Gel.

The black netting on the back was recycled from some fruit (I ALWAYS save those), and carefully embossed with LG (Sassy Sapphire) EP. If you use your heat gun too closely it will melt the netting, so keep that in mind if you try this out.

I finished it up with some cheesecloth dyed with Lindy's Magicals (Bling-y Blonde and Guten Tag Teal).

Thanks so much for your visit, and take care!

Now Summer is in Flower Art Journal Spread

Hello and hope you're doing well! I've been busy with this art journal spread, which took longer to make than I wanted, but was well worth it!

The colors come from the July Color Challenge at Lindy's Gang

I started by stamping some script onto my pages, and applying a light coat of white gesso. Then I used a stencil (TCW) with Lindy's (Clearly Clear) Embossing Powder to get the lattice design, and added water and Lindy's Magicals (Yodeling Yellow and Hi Maintenance Magenta).

The flower petals were stamped onto white tissue paper with Ranger (Jet Black) Archival Ink, and adhered with Prima 3D Matte Gel. Then I painted them with Lindy's Magicals (Polka Purple, Yodeling Yellow, and Hi Maintenance Magenta).

Masking tape was used to make the sun rays with a couple of coats of Lindy's Magical (Yodeling Yellow).

Then I embossed the rays with zigzags from the Bo Bunny (Stitches) Stamp using Lindy's (Midnight Violet) Embossing Powder.

The same EP was also used under the journaling strips through pieces of dry wall tape.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and take care!
