NSD Dali Layout ~ FotoBella DT

Happy National Scrapbook Day! One of my favorite artists is Salvador Dali, along with Picasso and Van Gogh, and I honestly can't pick a fave between the three. I love them all, for different reasons, but since I've already scrapped a couple of Dali's, and even have one framed in my living room, I decided to make another one to add to my collection. Eventually I will get to Picasso and Van Gogh. Lol!

I started with a piece of watercolor paper that I adhered with napkins from a fast food place, using Prima Marketing Soft Matte Gel to give it texture similar to a canvas. Taking my cue from many of Dali's works, I blended the background with Dylusion's Paints from FotoBella.com, starting at the bottom with Pomegranate Seed, and working my way up with Postbox Red, Squeezed Orange, Pure Sunshine, and Vanilla Custard using a large paintbrush. Then I used Archival Ink (Jet Black) with a couple of Prima Stamps (Salvage District) and (Finnabair Clear Stamp #4) with the bird.

The stencil work was done with a couple of Stamperia Stencils (Steampunk Man and Clock and Mechanisms) that I applied Prima Black Gesso to. Once dry, I reapplied my stencils, and added Art Alchemy Paints (Raven Black, Silver Spoon, Dragon's Eye, and Ginger Magic) with touches of Prima Rust Pastes (Brown and Red).

The titlework was done with Word using this simple tutorial to print onto black strips.

Some of the cogs and screws were made with the Finnabair Mechanica Mould using Paper Clay, and painted with Dylusions Black Marble Paint. The other gears are Tim Holtz metal ones that I covered with black gesso. Then they all got colored with Prima Waxes (Bronze Age, Vintage Gold, Brushed Iron and Old Silver) along with some more Rust Pastes. I just LOVE the result!

The clock on the left was embossed onto clear acetate with Emerald Creek (Hammered Metal and Black Cherry) embossing powders, allowing the background to show.

Finally I raised my print with some cardboard, and framed it with some Tim Holtz chains, that also received touches of Rust Pastes.

NSD Recycled Copper Containers ~ FotoBella DT

Happy National Scrapbook Day! This year, as part of the FotoBella Design Team, we decided to recycle, which is near and dear to my heart! So I had my supplies on my scrap table intending to cover a shoebox, when I went in the kitchen to get my coffee, and got this idea instead. As I was patiently (lol) waiting for my coffee, and staring at this espresso box, I figured it was just the right size to hold my brushes/pens, and other mixed media supplies, yet still big enough to showcase this old roll of embossed wallpaper that I've had. I'm so pleased with the results, and it was fairly quick and easy to make!

Supplies:

Coffee or K-kup containers
Embossed wallpaper (any kind of embossed paper will work)
Black Paint
Glue
Krylon Matte Finish

Directions:

1. Cut lid from coffee box. These boxes are 1/2" apart in height, with the smallest one measuring 4 1/8" X 4 1/8", and the largest 4 1/8" X 5 1/8".

2. Cut smaller side of lid, which will be the top of your divider, so your pens and brushes don't flop around, and for more stability. Run glue along bottom and sides, and adhere to the center of box.

3. Paint divider and inside of box with black paint. Cover outside of box with embossed paper, and paint black.

4. Now for the fun part! Use your fingers to apply Prima's Metallique Wax (Vintage Gold) all over the embossed paper, leaving spots of black in the background. Then go over it with Prima's Metallique Wax (Rich Copper), and seal with some clear matte spray.

I hope you'll give this a try, using Prima's new Metallique Waxes from FotoBella! To see what the rest of the Design Team recycled, please visit the FotoBella Blog.
