Sew Thoughtful Card ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

I really have a passion for sewing, and try to use it in most of my work, like this card featuring the Sew Thoughtful and Sew Thankful Cling Mounted Stamps from Red Rubber Designs!

I started with an older sheet of Basic Grey's "Lucille" paper, and cut up some pieces to collage together with Prima Clear Gesso. Then I sprayed it with some LSG sprays (Cotton Candy Pink, Hottie Patottie Hot Pink, and Black Orchid Silver). After distressing the edges, I machine stitched them with a black zigzag. For the design elements, I took my inspiration from sketch #135 from As You See It, making it vertical and foregoing the striped background.Instead I used the stripes for the banner with my sentiment.

The mannequin was embossed with Ranger's Fine Silver Embossing Powder, and colored with Distress Spray Stain (Brushed Pewter). Then I added the skirt and corset that I made out of black lace and pink organza, stitching the sides of the corset to give it some shape, and hand-stitching the lacing up front. It was SEW fun to make!

The sewing machine, scissors, and sentiment were embossed with Ranger's Fine Black Embossing Powder, and the sewing machine and scissors were also colored with Distress Spray Stain (Brushed Pewter). Behind the sentiment banner, which was machine stitched in silver, I rubbed some Inka Gold in Platinum. Even though both stamps include buttons, I decided to add some real ones for a little dimension.

Thanks SEW much for stopping by!

Under The Sea Father's Day Card ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

I had so much fun with some mixed media to create this card for my husband! My California guy loves the beach, so I started with some watercolor paper and applied gesso with TCW "Texurized" stencil to make my ocean. Then I placed a piece of Artist's Tape along the top to keep it free from all of the various mists and LSG sprays that I used to make the ocean and sand. After removing the tape, I used Distress Inks to color the sky, and some water to create clouds. Then I used the same stencil with some brown ink to make the rocks in the water. Once dry I applied some clear gesso for texture, and used some more inks over it. Then to make reflections in the water, I used the same stencil again, turned upside down, and inked in a dark blue right below the rocks. I also used Clear Wink Of Stella over the reflections to give it a little shimmer, which is kinda hard to see here.

The seaweed was stamped with the Under The Sea stamp set from Red Rubber Designs, colored with Distress Inks, and given some sparkle with Clear Wink Of Stella. Then I machine stitched around the edges, and added some fiber which I also colored with sprays to match the seaweed. For some sandy texture on the shore, I used Distress Embossing Powder (Brushed Corduroy), which is a GREAT sand color, then scattered and glued the little seashells.

To the base of my card I added layers of mulberry papers, which I haven't  used in YEARS! But I love the look of the torn edges, and the colors were perfect for my image! Before adding my image though, I used my new TCW Stencil "Nautical Chains" to mask the netting on the right with dark brown ink, then Distress Embossing Powder "Brushed Corduroy" again. Then on the bottom left corner I used white embossing powder with the So Splattered Cling Mounted Stamp.

Then sentiment was done using the Contemporary Greetings Unmounted Stamp, stamping happy with brown ink, and the rest embossed in white.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a great day!

Abounding Rose Sympathy Card (Sneak Peek) ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

Sympathy cards are never easy to make, but I found the Abounding Rose Cling Mounted Stamp from Red Rubber Designs to be so serene and perfect for the occasion! After embossing the image, I colored it in with watercolors, used Distress Spray (Brushed Pewter) to color the frame, and popped it up for some dimension.

I also embossed my sentiment with the Joyful Notes Unmounted Stamp, and used watercolors to make my background.

Bo Bunny Celebrate Card ~ FotoBella DT

Happy National Scrapbook Day! I'm celebrating with Bo Bunny's You're Invited I Want It All Bundle from FotoBella!

I started this card by making some confetti on the background of the "cheers" paper that comes in the 12 X 12 Collection Pack using a stencil for the dots with gesso and Glitter Paste (Pink Punch). For the smaller dots, I used a stylus with Prima Clear Gesso colored with some Distress Inks.  Then I attached the candle sticker and cupcake tag, layering the Celebrate Laser Cut Chipboard on top. To mimic the frosting on the cupcake, I applied some gesso to it, and sprinkled on some glitter while it was still wet. For a little sparkle on the cupcake I used Clear Wink Of Stella, which I also used on the Chipboard balloons, in addition to some Stickles (Yellow, Eucalyptus, and Diamond).

Then I hand-stitched the balloon strings, and finished it off with a Brad. Have fun celebrating, and check out the FotoBella Blog for some more inspiration from the rest of the Design Team!

Father's Day Card ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

I wanted to get an early start on Father's Day, so I made this card for my dad featuring stamps from Red Rubber Designs! Since my dad's always attracting animals, and especially birds, I thought the See Beauty stamp would be perfect for him.

I stamped and layered the duck image twice with white and kraft cardstock, colored it with Distress Inks, and used some brown sprays on the kraft background. To the background of the image, I added some stamped trees with the Tree Silhouettes stamp, and colored the trunks and branches with a marker. Then I attached a small silver brad to the compass on the left.

For the sentiment, I used the Contemporary Greetings stamp onto a piece of kraft cardstock that I added some LSG Magicals (Sandra Dee Sepia and Greased Lightnin' Green) to, giving it some great texture. I also used the Sepia Magical with some brown sprays added to some clear gesso to a strip of drywall tape along the bottom.

Thanks for looking, and be sure to shop Red Rubber Designs for some amazing stamps at great prices!

Beautiful Butterflies Tree Stump ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

Happy Earth Day! I'm always saving items that would normally be thrown away for future projects, and decided to finally transform one of the many almond cans that I've been hoarding. So I used some mixed media to create a tree stump with these Beautiful Butterflies that I stamped from Red Rubber Designs!

I started by covering the whole can with a light coat of gesso, including the lid. If you want to be able to take the lid on and off, I suggest you leave the top lip of the can alone, as I did NOT and had a hard time putting it back on again. :( Once dry I applied another coat with the Tim Holtz Woodgrain stencil just around the can. Then I sprayed it with various browns, sprinkled on some Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals (Greased Lightnin' Green and Sandra Dee Sepia), and lightly covered it with some Distress Embossing Powders (Shabby Shutters and Brushed Corduroy) to mimic moss and dirt. Here's a closer look at the front!

When I applied my second coat of gesso to the lid, I placed some twigs and these delicate fern leaves that my Mom collected for me YEARS ago, from the woods in her own backyard when she lived in Truckee, CA.  Thanks Mom! Then I used the same techniques that I did on the stump, but added more of the greens. I love the natural texture and almost didn't want to cover it up with the butterfly. Lol!

But I did, embossing all of the butterflies in black onto white cardstock, and coloring them with Distress Inks. Then I applied some Wink of Stella for a light sparkle. Here's a view of the back.

I hope I've inspired you today to recycle and celebrate our beautiful Earth!

Water Lily Mother's Day Card ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

I was so excited to try my first digital stamp from Pickled Potpourri Designs, which is the digital side of Red Rubber Designs! It was super fast and easy to print out the Water Lily stamp onto white cardstock, and lots of fun to color it in with Distress Inks and some sparkle with Wink of Stella. To the water background I added Eucalyptus Stickles for even more sparkle!

My design inspiration came from this beautiful sketch #5 used for this month's Card Challenge @ Scrapbook.com.

The wood strips and background were created with gesso, sprays, paints, and stencils. Then I followed some of the lines of the grid with my sewing machine. To the main image I hand-stitched a circle, adding some ribbon and green fiber along the bottom.

Then I added my stamped Beautiful Butterflies, which I also colored with Distress Inks, fussy-cutting and layering them together. For the sentiment I used Contemporary Greetings, which has a great variety of sentiments to cover the major holidays throughout the year, as well as birthday and sympathy.

Thanks for looking!

Happy Mother's Day Card ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

What mother wouldn't want to receive flowers for Mother's Day? I colored and fussy cut these yellow roses with the Charcoal Flowers stamp from Red Rubber Designs onto this tag/card that I made for my mother-in-law!

My design inspiration came from sketch #3 used for this months Card Challenge @ Scrapbook.com.

The background squares were colored with Distress Inks onto white cardstock, cut with decorative scissors, and machine stitched around the edges. I used the Beauty Of A Woman Background stamp to create the script on the green squares, by simply using water onto my stamp and letting it react with the Distress Inks for a softer look. To the yellow squares, I used a dotted stencil with some white gesso to create some polka dots. Then I stamped some smaller dots onto the white tag, using the Speckle Background stamp, and raised it up a little with some pop dots.

For the sentiment I used the Contemporary Greetings stamped along the bottom. Thanks for looking!

Bo Bunny Secret Garden Shaker Tags ~ FotoBella DT

Shake things up with these elegant vellum shaker tags made from Bo Bunny's Secret Garden I Want It All Bundle @ FotoBella!

The tags are cut from the papers from the 12 X 12 Collection Pack and the Ephemera, and measure 5 1/2" X 3 1/2",  making them the perfect size to fit the vellum foil pieces. But first I punched holes on the tops, and finished the edges with Ranger Silver Embossing Powder. Using fibers from my own stash I tied them off through the holes.

After adding some glitter pieces to the centers of the tags, I ran a glue stick around 1/2" of the vellum pieces, and glued them in place. Then I machine-stitched around the vellum, so the glitter doesn't escape, and attached a Brad to the top center right below the punched hole.

I used some more of my fibers to string through the banner Buttons, as well as the bird one on this purple tag.

To finish them off, I added some of the word stickers that come in the 12 X 12 Collection Pack

Thanks for looking, and shop FotoBella to pick up your own bundle!
