Golden Days Art Journal

Hello and happy Wednesday! I'm back with an art journal page reflecting these Golden August Days, which have been pretty hot here in Reno, Nevada!

I took inspiration from the gorgeous August Mood Board at Art Daily Cafe.

The brown background of a hill was transferred from a magazine using Prima Soft Matte Gel, and was the very first step. Then I stamped some script with the Script Background Stamp from Red Rubber Designs. Wanting to use one of the new Finnabair Stencils, I chose the Oriental Wall, and applied Prima Heavy White Gesso to it. Once dry, I painted a light yellow wash over the whole page with Art Alchemy Paints, mixing (Pure Sunshine, Dragon's Eye, and White Pearl). The sun rays were then embossed with the Rays of Hope stamp, using Ranger Clear Embossing Powder, before painting the rest of the page. But because I added that clear embossing powder, and also embossed the leafy flourish with Emerald Creek (Onyx Frost) EP, it smudged the design where the two embossing powders met. Had I known, I would've just stamped it with black ink. Lesson learned. Lol!

To paint the rest of the background, I used Art Alchemy Paints (Pure Sunshine, Dragon's Eye, Ginger Magic, and Fresh Orange). Then I went over the stenciling with Finnabair Metallique Wax (Vintage Gold).

Some of the bundles of wheat were stamped with Ranger Archival (Potting Soil) Ink, and the rest were embossed with Emerald Creek (Ancient Amber) Baked Texture. The sunflowers were embossed with Ranger Distress Embossing Powder (Walnut Stain) using the My Sunshine Stamp from Red Rubber Designs. Then I added Finnabair Mini Art Stones to the centers with Soft Matte Gel for some texture. Again I used Art Alchemy Paints to paint them (Pure Sunshine, Fresh Orange, Rustic Brown, Red Wine, Ginger Magic, Golden Moss, and Fairy Wings), and went over the centers with Finnabair Metallique Wax (Vintage Gold). Wanting more sparkle, I added Stickles (Golden Rod).

The tag is made from muslin, and had been in my stash for awhile now. It was colored with Distress Spray Stains (Wild Honey and Fossilized Amber). Then I embossed it with the Finnabair (Rust & Dust) Stamp using Ranger Distress Embossing Powders (Walnut Stain and Aged Mahogany). The 8, for August, was done with the Tim Holtz (Numbered) Stencil, using Finnabair Rust Effect Pastes (Red and Brown) with a touch of Wax (Vintage Gold). The calendar page was stamped with a Prima Stamp from 2009, which just happens to align for 2020. I highlighted the 11th, for my 19th wedding anniversary, with Stickles (Golden Rod), also added to the butterflies and bees, embossed with Emerald Creek (Onyx Frost) EP, using the Finnabair (Rust & Dust) Stamp for the butterflies, and the Be Fabulous Unmounted Stamp from Red Rubber Designs for the bees.

Thanks for looking, and take care!

Graduation Cap Card ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

Hi everyone! Today I have a graduation cap card to share, with some embossed stamping featuring the Victorian Vines Background Unmounted Stamp from Red Rubber Designs!

It's made from black cardstock and measures 6" x 6", with embossing done with Lindy's Gang (Midnight Violet) Embossing Powder using the Victorian Vines Background Stamp. Then I lightly went over it with Prima Marketing (Old Silver) Wax, giving it a two tone effect, which is kinda hard to see in the photos.

I added a rhinestone brad to the center with a tassel hanging from it, made from purple embroidery thread.

Finally, I made it pop with this tutorial, and embossed my sentiment with the Chicken Scratch Stamp.

Green Best Wishes Card ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

My parents recently got their genealogy results done, and found out that my Dad has a little Irish in him, which we never knew. He's also battling cancer, and just had his 3rd stroke, so I wanted his birthday card to be extra special. So I combined some of my Red Rubber Designs stamps with some gesso, sprays, and embossing powders to create this lucky card full of love and hope!

The first thing I did was to make the lake from white gesso, using a palette knife to create ripples. Then I colored it and the background with some Lindy's Sprays (Cathedral Pines Green, Frosty Forest Green, Freaky Frankenlime, Ocean Breeze Blue, and Tibetan Poppy Teal). I added a few more layers of spray to the water, followed by Prima Art Alchemy Paints (Mermaid Sparkle and Magical Pond), and clear embossing powder. Along the edges of the lake, I adhered some green glitter.

The trees were inked in black, with some embossed with Lindy's Gang (Angel Wings Peacock) EP using the Tree Silhouettes and Mountain Scenery Stamps.

The shamrocks were stamped and embossed with the Celtic Images Stamp, with some rhinestones added to the centers. The gold embossing was done with Ranger (Gold Tinsel). Then I embossed the sentiment with the Sophisticated Sentiments Stamp using Emerald Creek (Black Cherry) EP.

Be Always Blooming ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

Hello! I'm back with another art journal page featuring the Beautiful Butterflies Cling Mounted Stamp from Red Rubber Designs, and the Iris Fantasy download from their digital shop, Pickled Potpourri Designs

I started by creating texture to the background with some cheesecloth, strips of lace, and some fiber adhered with a coat of clear gesso. Then I applied my new Prima Unicorn Effect Paste to the Stamperia Wonderland Stencil, before coloring with my Lindy's Gang Sprays (Blue Hawaiian Blue, and Ocean Breeze Blue), Magical (Sassy Sapphire), and Magical Shaker (Guten Tag Teal).

The Tim Holtz chipboard flourish was coated with Prima White Gesso, and colored with Lindy's Magical Shakers (Guten Tag Teal and Polka Purple) along with Blue Hawaiian Blue Spray. Then I really made it sparkle with Unicorn Effect Paste, which I absolutely LOVE!

I also applied Unicorn Effect Paste to the Beautiful Butterflies, embossed with Lindy's Midnight Violet Embossing Powder! Can you see the beautiful chunks of glitter?

I used Midnight Violet Embossing Powder over some old black alpha stickers to spell ALWAYS, and Angel Wings Peacock for BE and BLOOMING.

The flowers, Iris Fantasy, were colored with Lindy's Magical Shakers (Guten Tag Teal and Polka Purple), along with Blue Hawaiian Blue and Witch's Potion Purple, also used on the butterflies. Then I gave the flowers some sparkle with Lavender Stickles, and the leaves with Eucalyptus Stickles.

Cupid Valentine's Card ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

Have you made your Valentine's cards yet? I combined rubber and digital stamping on this card that I made for my son.

The cupid heart was downloaded and printed from the new Pickled Potpourri Designs shop on Etsy, using the Vintage Heart Collages Digital Stamp. After cutting it from white cardstock, I gave it a coat of Lindy's Gang (Angel Wings Gold) Embossing Powder.

The rest of the stamping was done with my rubber stamps from Red Rubber Designs, starting with the script on the background, using the Beauty of a Woman Unmounted Rubber Stamp. Then I colored it with some Lindy's Sprays (Cafe au Lait and Blazing Sun), creating a shadow behind the heart with (Black Orchid Silver) and Stickles (Black Diamond), and making clouds from cotton balls. The sentiment was embossed with the Contemporary Greetings Stamp, and the small hearts with the I Heart You Stamp.

Finally, the arrows were embossed using the Elegant Arrows Cling Mounted Stamp onto cream cardstock, with Emerald Creek (Black Cherry) Embossing Powder, also used with the other stamps and card base.

Gold and Silver Thank You Card ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

Combining gold and silver can be very striking and elegant, especially when embossed with rubber stamps from Red Rubber Designs!

I started by stamping the background script onto white cardstock, using permanent black ink, with the Beauty of a Woman stamp, and spritzing with Lindy's Sprays. Then I embossed the Fern Frond Stamp with Emerald Creek (Silver Sparkle) Embossing Powder, and the bamboo with the Simple Starters Stamp using EC (Charred Gold) EP.

I used EC (Charred Gold) again with the So Splattered Cling Mounted Stamp along the bottom and right side. Then I embossed the sentiment with the Vintage Greetings Stamp (no longer available) with EC (Mirror Gold) EP, and adhered the sequins and beads one by one.

The frame was cut and mitered from a heavy kraft board, and covered with black gesso. Then I embossed it with the Victorian Borders Cling Mounted Stamp using EC (Mirror Gold and Mirror Platinum) embossing powders.

These older Petaloo butterflies were the perfect addition!

Charming Forest ~ Red Rubber Designs DT

After the holidays, I finally got a chance to play in my art journal again, creating a Charming Forest with a variety of stamps from Red Rubber Designs

To start the year with positive energy, I started by stamping all of the quotes from the Be Happiness Unmounted Rubber Stamp Set onto white and cream cardstock, using black and brown permanent inks. Then I tore them into vertical strips, and adhered them onto both pages of my art journal. Next came a light coat of gesso, followed with some Lindy's Gang Sprays and Magicals, used to color these pages for the Lindy's Gang January Color Challenge

I even added some Lindy's Sprays and Magicals to white and black gesso, applied to the Tim Holtz Woodgrain Stencil to make the tree trunk and door. It took several coats to color the bark, followed with a coat of LG Embossing Powder (Reindeer Moss Green). Then I embossed the door knob, made from a brad, with LG (Queen Sheba's Silver).

The Charming Forest images were stamped a few times onto white cardstock with black permanent ink, embossed with LG (Reindeer Moss Green) EP, and colored with Sprays and Magicals. Then I dyed some cheesecloth with LG (Ponderosa Pines Olive) Starburst Spray to make the tree tops.

The lake was made with several layers of Sprays and Magicals, with some black gesso applied to a stencil to mimic ripples. Then I covered it all with a coat of Lindy's Embossing Powder (Angel Wings Peacock). The grass was done with the Mountain Scenery Stamp.

To make the bridge, I also embossed (Reindeer Moss Green) EP onto some twigs to make them look wet and mossy. The sides were made from some rope and green fibers.

Originally I was going to add beads to light my tree, but these lanterns are so much better! They were stamped onto white cardstock and embossed with LG (Midnight Pewter) EP, using part of one of the Victorian Embellishments Stamp. Then I colored them with (Brushed Nickel) Spray and (Yodeling Yellow) Magical Shaker, adding some bling to the bottoms. Finally, I used (Sidewalk Chalk) Spray to paint rays of light shining from the lanterns, followed with some Stickles (Diamond) for even more sparkle.

Thanks for looking!
