Summertime Blues

Who says there ain't no cure for the Summertime Blues? For me it's the beach or lake, painting/creating, and music, which inspired this art journal page.

I also took inspiration from the July 2020 Time Mood Board at Art Daily Cafe.

I started by adhering torn strips of old sheet music onto my page, and randomly adding Prima white gesso. Then I embossed some script and clock stamps with Ranger (Clear) Embossing Powder.

If you're familiar with my work, you probably know how much I love an ombre effect, and painted one here with Lindy's Gang Sprays starting on the bottom with (Tiffany Lou Blue, Ocean Breeze Blue, and Delphinium Turquoise).

The paintbrushes were stamped with the Prima (The Archivist Collection) Stamp Set, using Ranger (Jet Black) Archival Ink, embossed with Emerald Creek (Chunky Rust) Baked Texture onto white tissue paper. After tearing around the edges, I adhered it with Prima 3D Matte Gel.

I love the rusty effect I got with the paintbrushes, and did it again, minus the tissue paper, to the Creative Embellishments Steampunk Clock Stamp, and the gears and cogs using the Artistic Stamper (Tick Tock) Stamp! The clock hands are from another older stamp embossed with Emerald Creek (Mirror Platinum) Embossing Powder.

The tiles were embossed with Ranger (Blue Glass) Embossing Powder onto white cardstock.

Ranger (Blue Glass) Embossing Powder was also used on the Prima Stitched Circles Stamp. To resemble bubbles, I painted them with Art Alchemy Metallique (White Pearl) Paint, and added splatters onto the background.

More stamping and embossing was done for the titlework, again, using Ranger's (Blue Glass) and Emerald Creek's (Mirror Platinum) Embossing Powders.

The wood strips mimic a window, looking out to the sea, and were made from a recycled cracker box, covered with Prima white gesso. Once dry, I applied the same gesso to the Tim Holtz (Woodgrain) Stencil, and painted it with Art Alchemy Metallique (Royal Blue and Midnight Sky) Paints. Then I added more texture with Prima Patina Effect (Blue) Paste and Rust Effect (Red) Paste.  The brads were embossed with Emerald Creek (Mirror Platinum) and also got touches of (Red) Rust Paste.

Thanks for dropping by, and stay safe!

Four Elements ATC's

The Four Elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water are represented on my latest set of ATC's, made with Finnabair Moulds, Metallique Waxes, Art Alchemy Paints, and beads!

They came from a deck of regular playing cards, that I covered with white gesso. Once dry, I embossed some stamping with Emerald Creek Boho Blends (Wrought Iron) Embossing Powder.  Then I added some Finnabair Mould pieces and Mini Art Stones, before painting with Art Alchemy Paints. All of the texture was brought out with Metallique Waxes applied with my fingers. I thought (Bronze Age) was perfect to represent the practical Earth signs of Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, shown with the globe stamped with the Stamperia (Around the World) Stamp!

The Air Signs of Gemini, Libra, and like myself, Aquarius, have a curious nature, represented by the moon. I just love the blues and purples against the (Vintage Gold) Metallique Wax!

The energetic Fire Signs of Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are shown here, using (Rich Copper) Metallique Wax.

The sensitive Water Signs of Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are represented on the last card using (Old Silver) Metallique Wax. Beads were the last step, along with this broken chain I found awhile back.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week!

Now Summer is in Flower Art Journal Spread

Hello and hope you're doing well! I've been busy with this art journal spread, which took longer to make than I wanted, but was well worth it!

The colors come from the July Color Challenge at Lindy's Gang

I started by stamping some script onto my pages, and applying a light coat of white gesso. Then I used a stencil (TCW) with Lindy's (Clearly Clear) Embossing Powder to get the lattice design, and added water and Lindy's Magicals (Yodeling Yellow and Hi Maintenance Magenta).

The flower petals were stamped onto white tissue paper with Ranger (Jet Black) Archival Ink, and adhered with Prima 3D Matte Gel. Then I painted them with Lindy's Magicals (Polka Purple, Yodeling Yellow, and Hi Maintenance Magenta).

Masking tape was used to make the sun rays with a couple of coats of Lindy's Magical (Yodeling Yellow).

Then I embossed the rays with zigzags from the Bo Bunny (Stitches) Stamp using Lindy's (Midnight Violet) Embossing Powder.

The same EP was also used under the journaling strips through pieces of dry wall tape.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and take care!

Believe in the Impossible Postcard

I'm still fairly new at postcard art, but really love working with the 6" X 4" size! It's perfect for trying new techniques or products, like the Metallic Distress Crayons I tried out here.

The first step was stamping the checkers and script with some Clear Finnabair Stamps using (Jet Black) Archival Ink. Then I fussy cut all of the images from a sheet of Bo Bunny (Land of Wonder).

All of the images, a strip of washi tape, and torn pieces of white cardstock were adhered and coated with Ranger Multi Medium Gloss. Then I colored the background with Distress Crayons (Barn Door, Festive Berries, Antique Linen, Seedless Preserves, and Peacock Feathers). Imagining a broken cup, I colored the torn pieces with Black Soot, and rubbed the edges with (Brushed Pewter and Tarnished Brass) Metallic Distress Crayons. Wanting to bring those pieces out more, I outlined them with (Brushed Pewter and Antiqued Bronze) Distress Spray Stains and splattered some onto the background.

The pearls are from a couple of sets of Bo Bunny Jewels, but can't remember where I got the metal gears.

All I did to the gears were light touches of (Brushed Pewter) Metallic Distress Crayon, which was SO fast and easy, and looks awesome!

     Thanks for looking!

Hello Kitty Layout

Hello and happy Monday! I'm finishing out the month with this fun layout featuring some shaker doors that I made.

I wasn't sure if it would be done in time for the June Challenge at More Than Words, but looks like I barely made it. As you can see I was completely inspired by the moodboard! Lol!

I started with the bricks, done with a stencil and white gesso mixed with Lindy's Magicals (Rowdy Rizzo's Red and Cuckoo Clock Cardinal) applied to a sheet of black cardstock. Once dry, I painted the same Magicals onto the bricks, along with Lindy's (Autumn Maple Crimson) Spray. Then I lightly embossed it with Ranger Brick (Antiquities) and Distress (Aged Mahogany) Embossing Powders, and gave it touches of white gesso.

I used to LOVE Hello Kitty when I was a little girl, so these photos taken on vacation last December in San Luis Obispo, California, were perfect to showcase the word HELLO! The chipboard letters started out black, so I covered them with white gesso, and embossed them with Ranger Mixed Media Powder (Scarlet). KITTY was also covered with white gesso, and then painted with Dylusions (London Blue) Paint. I painted the dot in the exclamation point with a mix of Dylusions (Pure Sunshine and Lemon Zest) to match her button, and made them all shine with Lindy's (Clearly Clear) Embossing Powder.

It felt good to use up this last piece of Bazzill Chipboard that I've had forever, and already had a coat of white gesso on it! So I embossed it with Emerald Creek (Silver Sparkle) Embossing Powder.

The doors were cut from a recycled cracker box, and given a coat of white gesso. Then I painted them with Dylusions Paints (Crushed Grape, Lemon Zest, Pure Sunshine, and Polished Jade). For the woodgrain, I used the Finnabair (Trust the Magic) Stamp with Ranger (Jet Black) Archival Ink. The knobs are made with a strip of the cracker box and a brad, covered with black gesso, and lightly embossed with Emerald Creek (Mirror Platinum) Embossing Powder. Aren't they so cute?

The bottom layer of the shaker doors were made from black cardstock, shown through the fussy cut checkered stamp that was done on white cardstock. After cutting the windows from a leftover salad lid, and adhering them, I filled them with glitter, and stamped a border around the whole page.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Beach Bird Houses Tag

Hello again! I'm back with a tag to celebrate Summer, and wishing I was one of these birds! Lol!

The colors and images were inspired by the Lindy's Gang fun and fabulous June Color Challenge

All of the stamping was done with the Hero Arts Basic Grey (Enjoy the Journey) Stamp Set. The leaves were stamped with permanent green inks and embossed with Lindy's Gang (Clearly Clear) Embossing Powder

To create a lagoon, I added some ripples to the rest of the tag with white gesso, and painted the top with LG (Ocean Breeze Blue) Spray. Since I didn't have the right shade of green in my sprays, I combined (Yodeling Yellow and Lederhosen Laurel) Magical Shakers with water, and blended that with more yellow towards the bottom. Voila! I DID have the perfect green! After a few more coats of color, I went over the whole tag with Ranger Multi Medium Gloss.

The houses were made from some old Kaisercraft and Bo Bunny scraps, and adhered and coated with Prima 3d Matte Gel. They started out much lighter, so I deepened the colors with the same sprays and magicals, and gave them texture with Prima Patina Effect Pastes (Mint Green and Blue) and (Dusty) Rust Effect Paste. For some more dimension, I raised up the house on the right with a piece of cardboard.

The birds are from the Bo Bunny (Serendipity) Collection. Two were fussy cut, and the one flying is a diecut. I adhered colored feathers to them (yellow, pink, and blue) with Prima 3D Matte Gel, and deepened the colors again using Lindy's Sprays (Poincianna Red Flame and Ocean Breeze Blue), with that perfect mix of Magical Shakers (Lederhosen Laurel and Yodeling Yellow).

The flowers were embossed with LG (Tannenbaum Green Gold) onto white cardstock and painted with LG (Poincianna Red Flame) Spray. That Magical green combo was used for the leaves, with (Yodeling Yellow) in the centers. I also used the magical mix for the feather, which started out yellow, and was first given a spray of LG (Sea Mint Green).

A scrap of cardboard was used along the bottom. To mimic sand, I added Prima (Dusty) Rust Effect Paste and Mini Art Stones, and of course some shells.

I finished the edges of the tag with some white gesso, and backed it with white cheesecloth. Then I dyed some strands of the cheesecloth with LG Sprays (Ocean Breeze Blue and Poincianna Red Flame), and again that mix of Magical Shakers (Lederhosen Laurel and Yodeling Yellow) to top it off.

Thanks for your visit, and take care!
