BOAF April Kit Reveal

Here's a couple more LO's from me using the BOAF April Kit. For the first one, I used My Mind's Eye "Collectable Collection" and the brown cardstock that came in the extras.
This was based off of the April Sketch Challenge here.
The banner was made using Cosmo Cricket "honky tonk" chipboard banner alphas and the rope that came in the kit. The buttons were from my own stash.
I stamped the title and did a lot of machine stitching. I made the pinwheels using this tutorial. I just distressed the edges first.

For my next LO I found the PERFECT photo of my nephew Neo to go with  Echo Park's "All about a boy" Collection. I started by cutting apart and distressing the star pattern on the Superhero paper that comes with the extra patterned paper. To get the blue background I sprayed Chalkboard Glimmer Mist "Cornflower" onto the blue cardstock, which both came in the extras. Then I did some machine stitching using different colors of thread.
I used the extra stickers to make the banner. It originally read TOUGH, so I kept the U and T and just used circles to cover up the other letters, making new ones with my Cricut.
I painted the circle wood veneers that come in the kit white, and stamped and embossed all the white flourishes to mimic the splash in the photo.

This was a really fun page to work on! Thanks so much for looking!

Technique Tuesday (Masking) at BOAF

Today I have a couple of masking techniques to share with you that I used making this 2 pager for Birds of A Feather. I used the April Kit  My mind's eye "Collectable" collection, except for the bottom blue paper, which is from Echo Park, also in the kit. This was based off of the 2 page sketch at Scapbook.com.
I started by using 2 sheets of my own beige cardstock for the background. Then I used the gears mask and sprayed it with Chalkboard Glimmer Mists (Cornflower and Valencia) which come in the extras.
Then I laid it on the bottom left side of my paper and pressed down.
Simply repeat spraying on your mask and laying it on your paper until you're satisfied. Here's what my left page looked like after masking.
Here's a close-up of the masking after my page was complete.
To make the birdhouse border on the top I started with a strip of cardstock 12" x 2 1/2". You don't want to use your thick cardstock for this. Then using my stylus I made lines every 2 inches, which just makes it easier to fold.
After folding my paper back and forth like an accordion, I drew this simple birdhouse, which you can copy, but feel free to do your own design or basic shape.
I cut around the house and used my 3/4" circle punch for the center. Now just open it and use as a mask.
I used Chalkboard Glimmer mist (Cornflower) again.
Here's some close ups of the awesome wood veneers that come in the kit.
Here's my journaling.
Thanks for looking!

Spring Blooms ~ The Paper Mixing Bowl April Reveal

Spring is in the air over at the Paper Mixing Bowl with the April recipe for ambrosia salad. I mixed Heidi Swap "Vintage Chic" and Basic Grey "Porcelain" papers. I started by tearing strips from my background paper and then water distressed  the edges. Once it dried, I masked the floral branches, which I cut with my Cricut "Home Decor" cartridge.
Here's the recipe and how I used it:
Utensils:
*Singing in the rain (music pp behind the photo and in the banner)
*May flowers
*Signs of spring (bird, flowers, and branches)
*Nesting material (my torn strips)
*Masking (the branches)

Directions:
I used spring in my title.

Here's a close-up of the masking and banner.

The chipboard bird was a RAK from Funtoolas which I covered in paper, stickles, and inks. The branch was embossed with Ranger black soot distress embossing powder.I finished it off with the black eye that  I made with puffy paint.
I used a mix of flowers, but none that were handmade. I believe the yellow and pink flowers were also a RAK from Funtoolas.
Thanks for your visit!

April BOAF Kit Reveal

This April Kit from Birds of a Feather is so fun, and perfect for your boy photos!!I scrapped my son on both of these pages. For the first LO I made, I used Echo Park "All about a boy" papers, curling the strips on the bottom. The wood veneers were so easy to ink using Tim Holtz Distress ink (gathered twigs)!

I started with white cardstock and this gears template from Crafter's Workshop which I bought with the extras. I sprayed it with Glimmer Mists Chalkboard in Mantis, which comes in the kit, and Cornflower and Valencia which are also extras. I stamped the orange dots and blue zig zag on the right using my own stamps. I finished the page off with a machine stitched zigzag  using green, orange and blue thread.

For my 2nd page I also used Echo Park "All about a boy" collection, which was the perfect collection that I've been waiting for, to scrap this photo of my son, when he was just 2 years old.

I used what was left of the wood paper that I cut from my first page, to start this design.  The green paper was masked using the Crafter's Workshop houndstooth template and Mantis Glimmer Mist Chalkboard, which are part of the main kit. I just love the large rick rack which also comes in the main kit. The banners and wheel of numbers are stickers which come in the extras.I used the jute from the kit to go around the number sticker, adding some yarn of my own.

Here's a closer look at the tag.

I've had a blast working with this kit, and all the fun colors and misting!!Thanks for looking!
