Be brave Layout

I was so honored to be one of the lucky 50 winners, out of 973 entries, for the Scrapbook.com Layout Challenge! My prize was the gorgeous Graphic 45 Safari Adventure papers, Cardstock Tags and Pockets, and Cardstock Banners, which I used to create this layout.

I knew this photo that my sister took would be perfect for this collection, along with this month's Sketch Challenge no.80 @ Scrap Africa.

I started by spritzing my background and smaller hexagons with some sprays and mists, along with a touch of Greased Lightnin' Green Magical from Lindy's Stamp Gang. Then I tore around the edges of my background, inked them with Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink, and gathered the top right side by wetting my paper. Underneath the gathers, I added a flower and tiger embellie, attached to a piece of cardboard that I sprayed and added black gesso to.

All of the hexagons were distressed and hand-stitched, and I added some burlap behind the large one. To the top one, I placed the tiger tag.

Next to that, I placed my banner pieces under a piece of orange and white fiber, knotted at the ends.

I framed the photo with a circle of branches, leftover from a previous project, made out of tissue paper and floral wire.  Then I placed my Petaloo flowers, after spraying the large cream one with orange and beige, onto some layers of  silk leaves.

Finally, I used the same color sprays on my chipboard title, after covering them with gesso, and drew the tiger stripes on with a black Sharpie.

Thanks for looking!

I love the mix of the wild animals with the very feminine flowers and typically feminine banner. Your message to "be brave" can be interpreted in so many ways. Love this!
