Happy Earth Day ~ FotoBella DT

Happy Earth Day! In honor of our beautiful planet, I scrapped this photo that I took of Big Sur, CA onto a leftover piece of cardboard from a frozen pizza, using lots of other recyclables, and some mixed media supplies from FotoBella.

I ripped off the top paper layer of cardboard and gave it a coat of Prima Marketing Heavy White Gesso. Then I applied tissue paper, that I can never throw away, onto the background using Prima Marketing Clear Gesso to extend the water out from the photo. Once dry, I went over it with Distress Crayons, using Peacock Feathers and Mermaid Lagoon from Set #1, and Peeled Paint and Chipped Sapphire from Set #2, blending the colors with Prima Marketing's Water Brush Pens. The final step in making the water was using a heavy coat of the Clear Gesso again,to apply strips of white tissue paper sprinkled with Prima Marketing's Glass Glitter (Pearl).

A couple of sticks were used to extend the trees in my photo with a few Petaloo Burlap Flowers (Teal), and a Petaloo Darjeeling Mini Mix (Teastained Cream) flower colored with Distress Sprays (Broken China and Lucky Clover).

I used the same sprays to color the other Petaloo Darjeeling Mini Mix flower placed in the middle of the burlap ones.

The best part of the view, an 80 foot waterfall that falls onto a beach in a cove, was cut off after printing my photo, so I made my own. I had to dig through my trash for some newspaper to create the rocks.by crumbling and shaping them. Then I gave them a coat of Prima Marketing's Heavy White Gesso. Once dry, I used my finger to paint them with Ranger Dyan Reaveley's Dylusions Paint (Slate Grey), and quickly used a toothpick with Ranger Dyan Reaveley's Dylusions Paint (White Linen) to add some detail. The waterfall was made with a torn piece of white tissue paper, applied with Prima Marketing's Clear Gesso, and sprinkled with Glass Glitter. To mimic the trees and grass, I added some green fibers tucked among the rocks.

I used real sand added to Prima Marketing's Heavy White Gesso colored with Distress Sprays (Vintage Photo and Antique Linen). To create the pool of water under the waterfall, I added more strips of white tissue paper applied with Clear Gesso again, sprinkled with glass glitter, and filled with Ranger's Glossy Accents.

The top part was painted with Distress Spray Stain (Broken China) using a paintbrush. After it dried, I went over it with Ranger Dyan Reaveley's Dylusions Paint (White Linen) using my fingers to create clouds. Then I added my recycled netting, before finishing the cardboard edges with a piece of rope that was once wrapped around a glass pillar holding a candle. It ended up being almost the exact size that I needed.

Thanks for looking! I hope I inspired you to look at your trash in a different way, with supplies from FotoBella!

"The Magic of Three" ~ A Vintage Journey Guest Designer

I'm so honored and thrilled to be invited as a Guest Designer for "A Vintage Journey", for having a Pinworthy Mention in the January Going Round in Circles Challenge! There's always so much inspiration to find. I know I was inspired when I learned the theme was "The Magic of Three", because for me that represents my wonderful, little family. So I took out my new smaller art journal, Dylusions Paints, stencils, and some stamps to create this page.

My son shares my love for color, so I had him pick three colors from my Dyan Reaveley's Dylusions Paints, and he chose Polished Jade (which I KNEW he'd pick), Squeezed Orange, and Crushed Grape, found at FotoBella.com.  Keeping the Magic of Three in mind, I applied the paints in three different areas of my page with my Mini Round Blending Tool, smudging a little of Melted Chocolate paint in the center, and through Ranger's Woodgrain Stencil, counting it as a neutral. Wanting to use three stencils, I added TCW Harlequin and Prima Marketing's Salvage District Clocks Stencils to mask the purple numbers. The big 3 on top was done with my old Ranger Alphabet Mask, and all of the black stamping done with Prima Finnabair's Rust and Dust stamp.

From that set, I stamped three large butterflies and three small ones, using the stamp three times before re-inking, to create a faded look, and give the illusion of movement. Then I used an old Tim Holtz stamp with Polished Jade paint to stamp the dots. The final Magic of Three was adding these purple flowers from Walmart that I had completely forgotten about with three petals in the center. They were also the only purple ones in the bunch, so it was meant to be!
