Trash to Treasure Shaker Tag

In honor of Earth Day yesterday, I have a shaker tag that was literally made from trash and turned into treasure!

It all started with the leftover packaging from some older Prima Flowers for the Finnabair and Prima Trash to Treasure Recycling Challenge.

I covered the packaging with Prima Heavy White Gesso, leaving the branding alone.

But once dry it curled up too much and definitely needed a stronger base to adhere to. So I looked in my trash and at the very top was a box of leftover frozen potato skins (thanks to my son), that was clean and just the right weight. I traced the hole from the flower packaging, covered the outer edges with Prima Black Gesso, and painted them with two coats of Art Alchemy Metallique (Crocus Fields) Paint. The photo below shows the first coat.

Back to the Prima packaging, which was given two coats of Art Alchemy Sparks (Dragon's Eye) Paint. Then I masked the branding with a circle sticker, and applied Prima Heavy White Gesso through the new Finnabair (Floral Net) Stencil.

The beautiful flourish on top was made with the Finnabair (Hollybrook Ironwork) Mould, the flowers with the (Art Noveau) Mould, and the key with the (Keys) Mould, all from paper clay.

After a coat of Prima Black Gesso, the flourish and key were painted with one coat of Art Alchemy Sparks (Dragon's Eye) Paint, and finished with Art Alchemy Antique Brilliance Wax (Lucky Emerald).

The clear packaging used for the shaker didn't come from Prima, but was the perfect fit for the base of my tag. I did some more recycling with the vase of flowers and canisters that were fussy-cut from an old magazine. The smallest canister was glued to the front of the shaker for dimension. Then I filled it with Prima (Frosted) Mica Flakes, to mimic shattered glass, perhaps from one of those canisters.

A garland was made around the shaker with some fibers and purple twine. Half of the twine was given a coat of Art Alchemy Metallique (Crocus Fields) Paint, with two coats used on the flowers, and Sparks (Dragon's Eye) Paint added to the centers.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
